Building a regional energy system: How IPA ADRION fosters the energy transition in the Adriatic-Ionian region

The Interreg IPA ADRION Programme is organizing a targeted event focusing on the programme’s contribution to the energy transition, held in the framework of the 11th EUSAIR Forum in Skopje on 19 May from 16.00 to 17.30. As energy security and climate change become top priorities for Europe, this event brings together policymakers and experts to discuss how countries can work together across borders to create a green energy corridor. By focusing on renewable energy and improved capacity building in the sector, IPA ADRION is helping turn high-level policies into real actions for a carbon-neutral region.

European integration is a goal that must be tackled from many angles, and energy is one of the most important. It affects everyone’s daily life, from heating our homes to how we work and move around. Because of recent global challenges, the energy sector is under a lot of pressure, making it clear that countries need to cooperate more than ever. Across the Adriatic-Ionian area, different organizations are joining forces to break down legal and physical barriers and move toward more harmonised regulations and smoother adoption of renewables.

For over 35 years, Interreg programmes have driven innovation by helping cities and regions share good ideas and find common solutions. In this session, you will hear directly from the people running IPA ADRION projects. They will present practical examples of new technology, such as using artificial intelligence for energy management, setting up “energy communities” in ports, and building stronger networks for offshore wind power. By bringing together experts and project leaders, this session aims to provide practical inspiration. It will highlight how the IPA ADRION Programme is committed to closing knowledge gaps and helping the area move closer to the EU through the transition to clean energy.
