Albania’s path to European Union membership is shaped by ongoing efforts to align its institutions, policies, and practices with EU standards. This journey involves important reforms, but it is also supported by instruments that build capacity, empower local communities, and encourage cross-border cooperation. Interreg programmes contribute to this process by facilitating territorial cooperation across borders.
The WONDER project, co-financed under the Interreg ADRION 2014–2020 programme, is a clear example of how this cooperation delivers real results. Focusing on developing child-friendly destinations and inclusive tourism, WONDER has contributed not only to local growth and social inclusion but also to building stronger ties with the EU community.
The European Commission selected WONDER as part of a campaign to showcase the role of EU territorial cooperation across external borders, highlighting Albania’s commitment and progress as a candidate country.
Through a short video, the campaign brings visibility to the people, ideas, and impact behind projects like WONDER, demonstrating how they serve as bridges to Europe. Watch the video to explore how the WONDER project is creating positive change in Albania.
